In this post I will be talking about the music I have been listening to over the past week/month/period of time. I thought it would be cool to talk to you guys and share what music I am currently enjoying. Although its what I am currently listening to, it may not always be current. But hey, who doesn’t love some golden oldies now and again.
I’m kicking this thing off with two albums that I bought recently. Both absolutely great, and you may have heard a song or two, or three, or all of them. They are both from last year, 2014, and are the newest albums from Hozier and Milky Chance.
Hozier’s album, ‘Hozier’, is just awesome. You’ve probably heard of the track ‘Take Me To Church’ but seriously, they’re all bangers. There is so much variety in the album and I love that. Every song has single potential. There is such a variety of emotion within the album to the point where one song will have you dancing wherever you are and then the next track will have you looking for a pack of tissues. A personal favourite of mine off the album is the track ‘Jackie and Wilson’. This track stood out from the first time I listened to the album. This track just seems to be the perfect mix of great orchestration and performance. I really like the rhythm and timing choices throughout this track with the syncopated sections. And the choir of ooo’s in the chorus are just the cherry on top lets be honest. I seriously cannot listen to this song without at least tapping my foot.
Milky Chance‘s album, ‘Sadnecessary’, is maybe not what you’re used too however I think you will be surprised how much you love it. This album contains the tracks ‘Down By The River’ and ‘Stolen Dance’, both of which I think you will have heard and are both great tracks. What I love most about this album is the unusual sounds that are used within the percussion. The sort of ‘industrial’ sounds really add to every track and have been effected brilliantly to produce great sounding percussion that not many other artists could achieve. The tone of the vocals are also absolutely awesome. They sound like they have been double tracked and then effected and it may be the main feature that makes the music sound so unique. I think my favourite track off the album must be the bonus track ‘Feathery’. The tone of the guitar is quite twangy and that sounds great. I love the pulsing of the track using the woodblocks and the reverb used on the percussion adds so much to the track.
Overall, they are both absolutely awesome albums and both deserve a listen for sure! I’d love to hear what you guys are listening to. Let me know!
